- Sustainable Governance Framework
Overview
Hindustan Zinc’s three-tier sustainability governance framework ensures robust oversight, accountability, and systematic monitoring of ESG performance across all levels of the organisation.
Tier 01
Sustainability and ESG committee at the board level
The Sustainability and ESG Committee at the Board level provides strategic guidance on climate, environment, safety, transparency, and long-term goals. Chaired by an independent director, it ensures robust governance and accountability.
Tier 02
Sustainability committee at the executive level
The Sustainability Committee, chaired by the CEO, sets long-term sustainability targets and coordinates operations through ten specialized communities. Together, they drive progress toward Hindustan Zinc’s Sustainability Goals 2025.
Energy & Carbon Management Community
Manages energy and carbon, and implements mitigation measures to meet GHG targets.
Water Management Community
Leads water conservation initiatives, audits consumption, and promotes a water-saving culture.
Waste to Wealth Community
Conducts research and development to plan innovative ways to reduce and reuse waste, tracks performance against minimisation targets.
Biodiversity Community
Work towards biodiversity conservation by updating the biodiversity management plans and increasing the green cover across operations.
Central OH & Safety Council
Implements safety systems and standards to achieve the company’s zero-harm vision.
CSR Community
Drives social initiatives aligned with UNGP, SDGs, and national priorities.
People Community
Reviews and reframes the relevant policies for promoting equal opportunity, and an inclusive and diverse workforce in the organisation. It prepares the workforce for leadership roles, conducts internal engagement surveys, raises awareness and communicates with external stakeholders.
Supply Chain Community
Ensures responsible sourcing, ESG compliance, and sustainable supply chain practices.
Communication Community
Manages ESG communications both internally and externally to build a reputation and enhance transparency.
Finance Community
Integrates ESG into project due diligence, reporting, and governance processes.
Tailings Community
Ensures safe management of tailing storage facilities across all lifecycle phases.
Social Performance Management Committee
Identifies & Mitigates social risks and fosters stakeholder engagement for positive community impact.
Tier 03
Integrated business unit ESG implementation
The IBU ESG Committee ensures sustainability practices are implemented at all operational units, continually identifies ESG risks, monitors impact at location, and undertake mitigation efforts to achieve organizational goals.
